Viewing SQL Database Information Within SAM

I'm rather new to SAM, and am wondering if someone can advise me on whether this is possible, and if so, how best to accomplish it.

Here's my scenario. A few machines are monitored by SAM, and these machines are performing operations on a large number of different files. As these machines go about their business, the applications are logging information in a SQL database, things like what type of operation was performed, and by which machine. My goal is to view the information in that database using a monitor in SAM, so that the detailed information about what these machines are doing is visible in SAM along with the more standard hardware and process statistics.

The approach I'm attempting to use is implementing a PowerShell component monitor. I have a script that accesses the database and returns the info I need, but I'm having trouble getting the script to play nicely with SAM.

Are there any thoughts on this approach? More general advice on using this type of monitor is welcome too, as this is the first time I've tried to use one. Also, if someone knows of a better way to do this, all suggestions are welcome! Thanks
