The boss man just gave me a cool task.... help promote the IT section and show off some abilities. I have cool stuff, but I kind of want to spread the word about SW.
So, I'm looking for some serious 'Cool' Factor.
We have NPM, SAM, LEM, and UDT in a fairly basic setup. For size-wise, we're in around the 2K butts in seats. We (network Ops) are watching a number of Alerts, getting the hang of QOE, beginning to use UDT to track down "Silly Bugger" AD accounts - a classic in our environment, is coming to HQ, joining corporate WIFI and not coming back for [password length policy] no. of days... then the cached credentials get you AD-locked on return. I digress.
What are some things you've put together that can appeal to the end user in a really gnarly way? I'm kind of at a loss on this one. I like the idea of pushing a GPO'd secondary tab to the end-users browser with an interesting visual of the network or in-house apps that are pertinent to them. Even just a basic status screen, or the like - but maybe with some local WMI info thats pulled from the desktop - presented as I said, a second browser tab on start-up. Made nice and slick with pass-through authentication etc. I could probably incorporate a "Hello, Stan" using UDT or something. Maybe as opposed to a secondary tab, have my web geeks give me a closeable frame with a single resource. I'm thinking the map maker is going to be my go-to on this one.
Just looking for ideas. Give me some 'neat-o!'
Cheers.
BTW - if you get the chance, take a class from kenny_newbry (<-- couldn't find you the @mention search!). Very knowledgeable. Good courses. /Plug
